After being approached by parents, we developed designs for a new playground and entrance for our local primary school.
The existing forecourt is a tarmac surface populated by cars and low concrete walls, uncomfortably navigated by a narrow meandering path. At drop-off and collection, parents and children are funnelled into a long cue, discouraging conversation and community interaction.
We propose to relocate the car park to an underused space nearby, freeing up the entrance forecourt for use as a playground and creating a clear and legible entrance to the school. The surface would be articulated with seating, rails, steps, planting and other simple objects to encourage free-play and creating a new public space for the town.
Our work on the project was undertaken pro bono and we hope to fund construction through private donations.
