Beach House, Barbados

Overlooking the Caribbean Sea and set within acres of tropical garden, this project completely renovates a large 12 bedroom beach house.

As well as upgrading and restoring the original building, the works includes a new entrance rotunda that dramatically connects the house to the sea and reconsiders the relationship between the house and its landscape. The project also includes the construction of a new 2 bedroom guest house, taking inspiration from the local vernacular.

As part of a larger design team, we collaborated with landscape designer Todd Longstaffe-Gowan, Interior designer Penny Morrison and Lighting designers, There’s Light. Working closely with the local construction team, as well as importing specialist metalwork and stonework from England and Italy, the project was the office’s largest and most complex project to date. The intense programme made it necessary to design and construct simultaneously, completing the project at the end of 2021.
